I just got a Lenovo laptop with windows 8. Does anyone know a way to set the function key to locked/unlocked as default? I've looked online and everything I've found is in the bios witch I can't do with JAWS.

Ask John. J H radio.
There's a trick to it, and I don't know why they make it so difficult.
He just got two, so he'll know.
Send him a private note.

There's a way to do this without messing around in the bios? Interesting. I didn't know it was possible.
Is this to change the state of the function key permanently, or would that still have to be done in the bios?

If it's a t540P you can try fn-escape which should toggle the function key on and off. I don't know about other moddles but you can try it to see what happens.

I did it in the bios with some help from someone that can see. I looked and looked in settings and everyplace that I could think of to find it and couldn't. You'd think it would be a fairly easy thing to do without going into the bios. JH radio if you see this I think it would be a great post for everyone. As I'm sure it is a common problem. I think alot of us would like to know how to change this without going into the bios.

He had to.
Lenovo should really fix that so it is easier.
You can use the FN key to do many things, but if you use Jaws, your F keys are just easier.
